Around the House

Spring seems to have sprung early beginning February. It has been lovely but a bit off putting how spring it is. My loquat is full of activity, mainly bees 🐝 and monarchs which will be great for the bee hive and honey this year 🀞. The lemon tree is also bursting and has a lot of different butterflies.

Doggies swimming, Doggies lounging, Doggies chilling. Calico is still visiting 🐈- find her sleeping all around the front garden beds, climbing the trees and sometimes on the roof. Random yard life, deer, and snails.

Also, I got a new poncho and 😍

Bathroom Remodeling

So back at the end of Jan, and coming on two years in the house, finally ventured into first β€œBIG,” project. A remodel of the guest bath, that felt dated and checkered by multiple past makeovers. When drawing out my plans, I was going to keep an internal wall but in the end the sledge hammer and open space won, and shifted a bit on ideas.

The decision to eliminate the wall between the shower and sink turned out to be a transformative move for the bathroom. This alteration allowed for a seamless flow between the two areas. To further benefit the openness of the space and let in natural light, I installed a transom window-let the light shine in!

As I began to tear down, I found multiple layers of different wallpaper, from the bamboo that was there, to the ducks that still lived under the current sink. I debated the 1970s green spiral super-graphic image that adorned the original wall that I removed- always loved these designs and I want to integrate it into the new space in some way. Additionally, I discovered a floral green emroidered cicada that added a unique touch of color and texture to the space. Inspired by these elements, I opted to incorporate a color palette of greens, orange, yellow and pink into the revamped design. I chose a lively green hue for the shower walls, which not only harmonized with the original graphic but also injected a fresh and contemporary vibe into the space. Almost done…

Art Projects

Been exploring making epoxy resin blocks using prints I have done. I started with this cowboy collage I did a while back using different floral prints patterns to create the cowboy.

I found the the epoxy resin enhances the colors and details of the print and provides a glossy and protective encasing that brings the artwork to life a bit more.Since beginning this bathroom project, I have been thinking of different ways of utilizing these into some sort of bigger installation or project.

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge

Been trying to get out to the The Balcones Canyonlands  National Wildlife Refuge a bit more, always a nice quiet hike. It is home to many native Texas wildlife and plants, and was specifically established to protect the nesting grounds of the black-capped vireo and the endangered golden-cheeked warbler. Recently been seeing a lot of nesting Blue Jay couples. With spring coming the fox are chattering and have come across a few bed of deer. This refuge also helps to protect water quality in central Texas and lies just north of Lake Travis, the drinking water reservoir for the Austin metro area.
